Nautical Base — Geneva, Switzerland
The location of the new nautical base is characterized by its position at the intersection between the urban fabric and the new park, marking the entrance to the park. In the project, the decision was made to retain the existing building and complement it with a linear structure that extends Avenue de la Jonction and creates a footbridge between the city and the new park. This linear element, which emphasizes the park entrance, is publicly accessible and can be crossed to reach the nautical base.
The existing building receives a new façade as well as two vertical external circulation cores to access all levels, including the roof. This building accommodates the entire heated program to avoid flood risks and is located one meter above ground level. The linear structure, or footbridge, is an unheated construction that houses the unheated program areas requiring direct ground-floor access. In line with a reuse-based architectural approach, the bridge has been assembled using the steel structure of the adjacent industrial halls scheduled for dismantling.
