House in France – Private Commission
On a ridge near the Somme, we designed an ecological house with a clear plan. The architectural language arises from the construction and the logic of its specific materials. The house is built entirely with sustainable materials. A timber structure with solid exterior walls in hempcrete is finished with a clay plaster. Floor insulation made of shells and foamed glass granules supports the loam brick infill walls. The timber roofs are insulated with hemp and the timber windows feature high-performance glazing. The open plan with a central patio creates a clear sequence of indoor and outdoor spaces and enhances the legibility of the whole. Only renewable energy sources will be used, and the garden will be designed as a food forest so that the residents, in addition to living with minimal energy consumption, can also produce food from their own land.
